AI Work Expert Overview: An Independent Guide to AI Gig Work
AI Work Expert is an independent publishing and referral website that tracks AI gig work: remote, pay-per-task and contract roles that train and evaluate AI models.
It collects listings from the platforms in this space, publishes the pay each one advertises, and adds platform reviews, comparisons and practical guides. It is a reference for people deciding where to apply, not a place to get hired.
We publish roles, reviews and guides. We do not hire, interview, screen or pay anyone.

What AI Work Expert is not
- Not an employer, staffing agency or recruiter, and not affiliated with any platform it lists.
- Not a platform you work on. Applying always opens the platform's own site.
- Not a source of financial, tax or legal advice. Check your own situation before you start.
- Not a guarantee of work or income. Several platforms describe stretches with little available work, and our reviews say so.
- Not paid for ratings. Reviews reflect our reading of public information and the listings we track.
Who it is for
Professionals with domain expertise
Doctors, lawyers, engineers, accountants, researchers and other specialists who want to know which platforms pay for professional judgement, and what each one advertises. Start with the platform profiles and the live listings.
People new to AI training work
Readers who are not sure what the work involves or whether a platform is legitimate. The beginner's guide and the platform trust reviews, such as is Mercor legit and is Alignerr legit, are the usual starting points.
People comparing platforms
Anyone choosing between two options. See the side-by-side comparisons and the platform matcher.
When another option may fit better
- If you want a salaried, benefits-carrying job, a general job board or a direct employer search will serve you better.
- If you already know the platform you want, apply on that platform's own site.
- If you need tax, legal or immigration advice about contractor income, ask a qualified professional.

How we collect and verify data
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Collect | Every role is taken from the platform's own listing or referral portal: title, pay, description and skills, as advertised. |
| Filter | Listings with no pay information are excluded rather than shown with a guessed number. |
| Keep current | Listings carry a real posting date and an expiry. Closed roles drop out of the sitemap and lose their job markup. |
| Calculate | Pay figures are the median of the low ends and the median of the high ends across hourly listings. Groups with fewer than three listings are excluded, and salaried roles are never mixed into hourly figures. |
| Disclose | Referral relationships are stated on listings and in the site footer. |
The full method is on the About page. If you cite a figure, link the page you took it from.
How we earn money
Referral fees
Some outbound links to platforms are referral links. If you apply through one and the platform pays a referral, AI Work Expert may earn a fee. It costs the applicant nothing and does not change the price or pay on offer.
Editorial independence
Ratings and reviews are not paid for or influenced by the platforms reviewed. Where a review is critical, such as the data-security history covered in the Mercor review, it is published anyway.
Compared with other ways to find AI gig work
| Option | When it fits | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The platform's own site | You already know where you want to work | Eligibility, current pay for your specialism and payment terms in the contract |
| A general job board | You want salaried or employer-backed roles | Whether the role is training or evaluating AI work, and whether it is contract or employment |
| A review and listing site such as this one | You are choosing between platforms and want advertised pay side by side | Whether the site discloses referral income, shows its sources and dates its data |
| Community forums | You want first-hand accounts of work availability | Individual experiences vary, and accounts can be promotional or outdated |
| A recruiter or staffing agency | You want a placement handled for you | Fees, exclusivity and who the end client is |
Pay data snapshot
Across the 850 hourly listings in our dataset (open and recently closed roles), the typical advertised rate is $60 to $90 per hour. Individual listings vary widely, so use the platform pay pages for specifics. These are advertised rates, not what any individual earns, and a rate only becomes income when there is work to bill. Pay breakdowns by platform are on the platform pay pages, for example Mercor pay, and the cross-platform picture is in the AI training pay report.
