Gold Response

A verified, correct reference answer that an AI's output is compared against.

Before a model's output can be scored, someone often has to write the "gold" - the ideal, fully-correct answer to a given prompt. Writing gold responses is common, well-paid work for domain experts, since it requires actually solving the problem correctly yourself, not just judging someone else's attempt.

Example

Before grading AI-written proofs, a math PhD first writes out the fully correct, step-by-step proof that becomes the reference every AI attempt is checked against.

Common questions

Generally yes - you have to actually solve the problem correctly from scratch, rather than judge whether someone else's attempt is correct.
