How to fill your Mercor & micro1 profile

WE. Team·06 Jul 2026·7 min read

Your profile is the thing the matching algorithm actually reads - and most people fill it out once, carelessly, and then wonder why they never get matched. A few fields do almost all the work. Get those right and you’ll see more relevant offers; get them wrong and you’ll sit in the queue while less-qualified but better-optimised profiles get picked.

Start with the resume

Both platforms parse your resume to seed your profile. Upload a clean, outcome-led resume first - our AI resume builder produces exactly this format. Everything downstream inherits from this parse, so a messy resume means a messy profile and weaker matches.

Pick specialties carefully

Choose specialties you can defend in an interview. Over-claiming gets flagged fast; a focused profile matches better. It’s tempting to tick every box to widen your net, but a narrow, credible profile beats a broad, shallow one - the systems are tuned to reward depth and punish inflation.

Rank your specialties by real depth, not by which pays most. If your strongest area is backend engineering, lead with that even if the finance specialty has a higher headline rate. You’ll clear the screening, build a track record, and can always add specialties later once you have a rating behind you.

Keep it current

Update your profile whenever you finish a meaningful project or learn a new tool. Stale profiles quietly sink in matching, and a two-minute refresh after each engagement keeps you visible for the roles you actually want.
