How Mercor pays: schedule, methods, fees and delays

Short answer: Mercor pays hourly contractors weekly, around noon Pacific on Wednesdays, for the previous work week, through Stripe Connect or Wise depending on your country. Standard Stripe payouts are free, Instant payouts carry a 1.0% fee, and your first Stripe payout has a 7-day holding period. Everything here comes from Mercor's own pages: Payments and Time Tracking and Pay Policies, read on 1 November 2026.
Mercor's listings say the same thing in one line: payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered. The detail is where people get caught out, so this guide goes through the schedule, the two payout providers, fees, the first-payout hold, and what to do when money is late. For how much you can earn, see our Mercor pay rates built from live listings.
When does Mercor pay?
Hourly contractors are paid every Wednesday around 12:00 PM Pacific. Each payout covers the previous work week, which Mercor defines in India Standard Time: Saturday 12:00 AM to Friday 11:59 PM IST. Hours logged after that Friday cutoff move to the next pay period, which catches people in the Americas, where a late Thursday log can already be Friday in India.
| Payment type | When it is released | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Hourly work | Wednesdays around 12:00 PM Pacific | The previous Saturday to Friday work week (IST) |
| Bonuses, work trials, referrals | Two windows a week, both around 12:00 PM Pacific | Approved Wednesday noon to Sunday night are paid the next Wednesday; approved Monday to Wednesday morning are paid that Friday |
Mercor says the maximum lag for bonuses, trials and referrals is seven days. It does not say what happens when a payout day falls on a holiday.
How are hours counted?
Hours are tracked in Insightful. Mercor reviews logs and resolves flagged issues before processing, and hours are finalized at the Friday IST cutoff. Two points in the policy are worth knowing before your first week.
- Manual time is discouraged. The best-practices list says not to add time manually; the FAQ says manual entries are generally discouraged and reviewed case by case, with supporting documentation and no guarantee.
- Withholding is a human decision. Hours may be withheld for policy violations, spam or bad-faith activity, or logging time while not working on project tasks. A human reviewer looks at screenshots, activity logs and context. Low-quality output does not cancel time that was legitimately logged.
- Disputes have a window. Submit a dispute during the pay period immediately after the one you are disputing. Duplicate requests are disregarded and resolutions are definitive.
- There is a weekly cap. Mercor says it enforces one but does not state the number of hours on that page.
Stripe or Wise: which one will you get?
Mercor assigns the payout provider by region, and you cannot choose it. Stripe Connect is used in supported countries, with funds going to your Stripe Express account and then to your linked bank account. Wise is used in countries Stripe Connect does not support, and for some one-off payments.
| Stripe Connect | Wise | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the money goes | Your Stripe Express account, then your bank account only | The email registered with your Mercor account |
| Setup | Select Setup Payments when you accept an offer; identity verification, bank details and tax information; SMS two-factor authentication | Open the link in the Wise email, create a personal account, complete 2FA, add bank details, accept the transfer |
| Each payout | Automatic | You must accept a Wise email for each payout |
| Not supported | Linking an existing standalone Stripe account; bank accounts not in your own legal name | Wise balances, tags and debit cards |
Contracts are in US dollars. Stripe or Wise converts to your local currency at payout time, and because Mercor's platform is registered in the United States, non-US contractors receive local currency. Mercor does not state exchange rates or conversion fees on these pages. Check the payout preview in your provider before you assume a figure.
How long until the money arrives, and what does it cost?
| Option | Timing after release | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe Standard | Up to 5 business days (the troubleshooting section says 2 to 3, up to 5 around holidays) | Free |
| Stripe Instant | About 30 minutes, if your bank supports it | 1.0% |
| Wise | About 1 hour, though some routes take longer | Not stated by Mercor |
The time-tracking policy adds that most funds arrive on Thursday and that most experts receive money within 2 to 10 days depending on provider or bank. After a payout shows Paid in Stripe, banks may take a further 5 to 10 business days to display it. Same-day payment is not guaranteed. You can change between Standard and Instant under work.mercor.com, Profile, Account, Payout preferences.
The first payout is slower
Stripe applies a 7-day holding period to your first payout. After that, payouts follow the weekly schedule. If your first week looks late, check this before you contact support. Mercor also notes that it cannot manually hold, delay or consolidate payouts, and monthly batching is not available.
Why is my Mercor payment late or failed?
- Wrong bank details: the receiving bank rejects the payment and the funds return to your Stripe balance. Stripe retries after you correct the details, and Mercor says to expect 10 to 15 business days, which cannot be expedited. The policy page says a rejected transfer may take 8 to 12 business days to be marked Failed.
- Unaccepted Wise transfer: the transfer stalls on Wise's side and Mercor cannot push it through. If the link has expired, contact Mercor Support for a reissued transfer with a new claim link.
- A Stripe hold: holds are placed by Stripe and Mercor says it cannot remove them. Complete pending actions in Stripe or contact Stripe Support, and payouts resume automatically once cleared.
- Bank changes: a change to your bank details applies only to future payouts, not ones already sent.
Which countries can Mercor pay?
Mercor publishes a Supported Countries for Payment page grouped by Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania, with countries marked Wise paid through Wise instead of Stripe. It also lists unsupported locations and says Mercor cannot onboard experts or issue contracts in any location not on the supported list. Check it before you spend time on an interview.
Taxes and referral payouts
Mercor has separate pages for taxes and work authorization, US 1099 versus W-2 work and its referral policy. We have not summarized them here because the rules differ by country and by listing, and some Mercor roles are W-2 arrangements through an employer entity instead of contractor work. Read the listing's own terms first.

The verdict
Mercor's payment system is predictable once you know the rules: weekly on Wednesdays, a seven-day hold on the first Stripe payout, free standard transfers, and a hard Friday cutoff in India time. Set up Stripe or Wise before you accept work, keep your bank details exact, and log time as you work. If payment problems start, read the failed-payment section above before you contact support.
